Working At Shopping Marts or Malls
Although the number of marts and shopping malls is increasing day by day, numerous marts
and shopping center projects are being initiated in Hyderabad . Some of the recents shopping
malls include Boulevard mall , Dawood Super mart, Max bachat Qasimabad branch.
These are all huge projects and require a lot of staff as well. Eventhougb it is very easy to
get a job there but not easy to survive one .
The workers are forced to work in inhumane conditions, they have to work shifts of 10 to 12
hours and are paid for only 8 hours. It is really difficult as a full time job even, so for a student
to work here is a round tril to hell. They are given to exceptions, they have to work full shifts
and are often given extra burden because they are educated and work better. This might be
the only place where the ability of a studemt is exploited.
WWhereas a boy is often burdened with extra physical work load , a girl often is steriotyped
as a showpiece at shopping malls and marts , they are jut put there to gain people's attention.
Girls often feel humilated as they are never treated as hans but rather as an object that can attract young boys and men. But girls have to work here due to their financial conditions.
Talking to a girl student who studies at IBA ddepartment, univeristy od Sindh , she said that
she feels totally exhausted and tired in managing these two duties at once. She has to go
to the university in the morning and get out of there by 1 so she can reach her job by 2.
It is mentally and physically exhausting.
Girls have to face harrasment on a regular basis in shopping malls and marts, not only by the
customers but by their colleagues for most. Girls have to be very careful while interacting with
anyone. They often recieve phone number from total strangers and indecent offers as well.
For most of the boys the issue is low wages and extra work load. they are often mistreated as
well.
A former student who used to work at max bachat super market told us about his experience
of the one year he worked there. He said that he had to work for 12 hours daily with very limited
breaks. He had to stand the whole time. They were not allowed to sit during duty hours .
No meals were provided to them, there was no over time pay and they were treated very rudely
as of they were slaves, their supervisors and managers were all ineducated and did not know
anything about human management . He aaid that the work he had done there in one year was
miserable . His health condition was in danger ,because he could bot eat well and get good
sleep. And the amount he was given was no good. He could barely neet his monthly expenses
by that wage.
Working in this field in Hyd  (write in full form) is very difficult for boys and girls both .
