It is result of human activities. Water bodies include lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater. This dumping carries hazardous/dangerous elements like industrial waste, oil, human waste and other chemicals that harm aquatic life badly. Water gets polluted when contaminants are introduced in the natural environment. For example, releasing inadequately treated wastewater into natural water bodies that leads to degradation of aquatic life, which lead to public health problems for people living in downstream. They may use the same polluted river water for drinking, bathing and irrigation. Dumping in rivers is the leading worldwide cause of death and diseases.
