students are the future of any nation
If you wanna predict a nations future, talk to their sutdents and you will have
the answer. Student life is tough in many aspects, but if you are a student in
a developing and poor country, the biggest issue you face is your financial
crisis. specially university students who have crossed the legal age of
dependence over their parents and now are on the verge of practical life. they
hav ean urge to fulfil thier financial needs by themselves. the only option for
them to do so could be a part time job. it could be at a call center ,
tuitions, freelancing etc.
in developed countries like
uk or usa there are several
opportunities for students t work for few hours and earn enough money to make
ends meet and also pay for their educational expenses.but In pakistan the
conditions are worse. First and foremost their is a huge stigma around doing a
part time job while you are studying. the society thinks of it as a weekness of
the parents that the child has to work to complete his studies. secondly the
students themselves dont realize the importance of self reliance and how
important it is to be financially independent. but even the ones who do want to
do a job, they do not get enough opportunites to do so.
students from lower middle class
or poor class backgrounds normally opt to work while they are a student. But
job opportunites over all are very limited and there could be many reasons for
it. Be it illiteracy, poor education system and over population all of these
have converted our job market into a mess. getting a part time job is nearly
impossible. thier is no legislation to accomodate students and provide them
part time jobs. In 2010, the european Union implemented a law that any multi
national who operates in Europe must have 5 percent of part time employees who
are students. but no such legislation has been done in pakistan.
hyderbad is medium sized city, and the job market here is very
limited too. It provides very few opportunities too students to work part time.
cities like karachi, lahore or islamabd have better part time opportunities for
students, specifically because they have calls centers. A call center can be
very accomodating for a student. It has flexble working hours. You can study at
day time and work there at evening. and the work is not too hecitic as well. if
you are an educated individual then it should not be a big dela for you to
speak and communicate with people. but hyderabd unfortunately doesnot have many
of such opportunities. there are very few call centers and even in the few
there is no part time jobs.
although a lot of
businesses have flourished in Hyd in the last 10 years, specially food joints,
cafes, careem and uber but there are not a lot of part time opportunities for
students. Hotels and restautrants do not employee part timers, and to work as a
driver in careem or uber one must have a car, which is very unlikely to have
for a lower middle class person. so that option is not applicable. shopping
malls and restaurants dont provide part time options as well and even those who
work here are never satisfied with their job.
talking to one of the
girl who is a student we found out that the work environment is not apt for a
girl to work. They are used as a showpiece at any mart, shopping mall or
restaurant. They have to face harrasment on daily basis. Other than that the
wages are not so good as well.
Shaharyar Khalid a
student who worked a famous food chain mentioned that the he had to work for 12
to 14 hours a day with no extra pay, due to which his health condition was
endangered and he could not focus on his studies either.
so the corporate
industry is not a good place to find a parti time job In Hyderabad. Niehter are
the food joints. The unpaid overtime , the work environment and the pay are not
suitable for a student to work there.
the most suitable option
for a student to earn money and meet his expenses is giving tuitions to school
or collage children. Many students opt for this option as this is something
that is elated to education and keeps them in touch with studies as well. it
does not require a lot of time and it is thought to be very respectable as
well. students earn a handsome amoun of money iva tuitions.
specially for girls it
is a very good option, they can teach children at home and earn money or they
could give home tuitions as well, a student f english department, who resided
in the marvi hostel told us that she teaches 4 kids at their home in the
evening and earns 7k per month. which helps her to accomodate her expenses at
the hostel and she does not have to depend on her parents to live there. she
futrther said that doing a part time job and earning for herself not only pays
here expenses but also gives her a sense of independence. But the one
difficulty one has to face is arranging students to teach. If you ae in your
home town then its not a big deal but if you have come to hyd from interior
Sindh then it would e difficult for you to find students to teach because you
might not have any relatives or connections who can arrange students for you.
But once you find some students to teach, It is smooth sailing afterwards.
The government needs to
take a serious look at the part time job policies and do legislation that helps
students get a part time job and earn their wage to bear their expenses. Multi
national or national companies should be held responsible for providing part
tie jobs to students. A specific number of employees should be made compulsory
to be students and part timers.
