Review
Of Drama “CHEEKH”
“Cheekh” is not a regular love
story or a family drama. This story is related to sexual domestic harrasment.
It brings a unique story line.
I t is
written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and Directed by Badar Mehmood. Saba Qamar, Bilal
Abbas Khan and Ushna Shah are the main characters of drama.
The story shows journey of a woman
who fights for justice for her closest friend. She stands against her own
family to demand justice for a victim of sexual domestic harrasment meted out
to her closest friend in her own home by her brother-in-law.
The story revolves arround three best
friends Mannat (Saba Qamar), Haya ( Azekah Danial), Nayab (Ushna shah) who are
full of life and love. Mannat and Haya are shown to be from an elite class
background whereas Nayab belongs to lower class with the cunning and greedy
step mother who is always plotting on earning in through Nayab.
Nayab mysteriously falls off the roof
during Haya’s engagment and later succumbs to her wounds leaving everyone with
(Raja Bhediya Nikla). When Mannat get to know that her friend Nayab is being
sexually abused in her own house and the person involved was mannat’s
brother-in-law. So, Mannat decides to take stand for her friend no matter what
ever it takes at any cost she will help her friend in order to accomplish
justice for nayab. Mannat fired case against her brother-in-law and faced a lot
of quiry, objections moreover her own name and status was at high risk.Person’s
who were with her all the years as friends and family abondoned her but
thereafter Mannat stood strong and firm
and fought against everything to get justice for Nayab.
Mannat loses her everything first she
lost her Child, then his Mother, even after losing her husband she stand for
her friend until she get justice.
The drama is a breath of fresh air that
will (Hopefully) encourage woman to speak out against any injustice no matter
how small or big the deed, wrong will always be wrong. It also mirrors the
ugliness of the society we live in where saving your name and your marriage is
far more important than speaking where justice does not come easy and how the
powerful can get away with almost anything so easily.
Mannat, played by the immensely talented
(Saba Qamar) is a strong headed and outspoken girl and she belives in speaking
the truth all the time.
Wajih, played by the heratthrob (Bilal
Abbas Khan) is a sharp and cunning man who knows how to manipulating any
situation to suit himself.
Nayab, played by the stunning (Ushna
Shah) is a sweet and innocent girl who is in love with wajih.
Since the last few episode the drama seemed to drift away from its
purpose and did not seem to do much to change the negative aspects into a
positive one. Episode 23 however seemed more inclimed towards emotional scenes
and melodrama.
